A Campaign For Our Future

It’s finally here!  After nine months of planning and developing partners during the whisper phase, the #Invest In Fathers campaign will be launched at the July 16th, 2016 Free Fathers Resource Fair and Dads Café from 9:30 am to 3 pm at the Marillac Social Center located at 212 S. Francisco Ave., Chicago, Illinois.  Our launch event includes special invited guest, U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis (7th District of Illinois). Free table registration at http://www.fathersforthefuture.org/invest-in-fathers/.

The #InvestInFathers campaign is a two-year multicultural organizing effort to financially empower young fathers by connecting them with resources in their communities.  The campaign will host ten free events (Fathers Resource Fairs) throughout Illinois. The goal is to connect 5,000 young fathers to adult education, parenting education, financial literacy, child support workshops, health care enrollment, voter registration, and legal services. The Fathers Resource Fair Series locations include: Chicago, Joliet, Aurora, Kankakee, North Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, Champaign, Normal, and East St. Louis.

One of fatherhood’s great advocates, Cook Country Commissioner, the Honorable Richard R. Boykin (1st District of Cook County), will help lead us in this exciting and robust initiative.  Commissioner Boykin will serve as Honorary Campaign Chairman along with a campaign committee comprised of similarly motivated individuals who understand the need to help men become better fathers by improving themselves.

These free Resource Fairs will feature service agencies and resource providers who can assist fathers with health, career, and personal development matters. Also featured at the Fairs will be a Dads Café which will provide for honest discussions among the fathers about the challenges of fatherhood. Finally, Fathers for the Future will offer an introduction to the concepts of Financial Intelligence, and to the emotional components of good financial decision-making.

With the generational decline of the family unit, the City of Chicago being gripped by violence, and the State of Illinois sadly held hostage in financial purgatory, it is imperative that all of the nonprofit organizations that serve men unify to better help our clients.  By highlighting resource service providers, the #Invest In Fathers initiative will connect young fathers to our community and governmental partners who continue to provide needed assistance.

I believe when you invest in a father, you invest in the family, you invest in the community, and ultimately, invest in our future.

Sincerely,
J. Michael Carr Jr., MBA
